Xibank is a DOS commandline converter. It converts *.xi instrument files (Fast Tracker II) to *.fff and *.dat files. FFF- format is used by soundcards based on AMD InterWave chip. This program have been tested (in some extend...) only with Gravis Ultrasound PnP.
How to use it?
Using Xibank is very, very simple. All you have to do is create an ini- file in which you define the xi-instruments you want to convert, give paths, give a midi bank number for the fff-bank and give programchange numbers for each instrument. After that Xibank can convert all your instruments to one fff-bank. Zip-archive contains detailed info on using Xibank and creating your own ini-file.
Features:
- 8 or 16 bit samples
- regions
- key relativity
- fine tune
- panning
- loop (pingpong or forward)
- volume envelope *(see the footnote)
- banks over 20MB (they are divided into several dat-files)
Note! Volume envelopes are treated as linear. This is usually not a problem, if envelopes are not too long.
Why?
I wrote this program so I could use FT2 as an instrument editor for Gus PnP, because there's no kind of (cheap) instrument editor available for Gravis PnP. This means, that the converted instrument bank should sound good enough without any modifications.
Compatibility
This program have been written with pascal and under DOS 5 operating system. That's why it may not work with some operating systems. Well, I've used it now with my new computer, which has Win98 and there haven't been any problems so far, so try on your own risk.
